2020: So Far

By August 10, 2020No Comments

It’s only August but 2020 has easily been the most interesting year. So far I have gotten engaged, gotten married, and am looking for a house. Normally, those things alone would make for a memorable year, but on top of that, we are in the middle of a pandemic. This has given us an opportunity to be creative here at church. This year’s VBS is also a part of the memorable things for 2020. This year we weren’t sure we were going to have VBS. We couldn’t think of a safe way to bring kiddos here for VBS. So we decided after much thought and prayer to bring VBS to them! When I decided that the v meant virtual in VBS this year, I wasn’t sure how it was going to look, if it was going to be possible or if people would even participate. We had a goal of 75 children. God decided otherwise. After day 1, we had given out over 50 bags. Frantically I made 75 more bags. 60 more bags were gone after day 2, so frantically I made more. And this happened until we have our over 225 bags. How amazing is God? We had the opportunity to share the gospel with over 200 households. This year we got to share the gospel with not just children but the adults in their house as well as siblings that would normally be too young or too old to attend. We also had people from all over watching our VBS. Some people participated that didn’t even come to get a supply bag. So we got to share the gospel farther this year than we normally would. Though organizing this Virtual Bible School was a bit of a challenge, it was absolutely worth it. This year VBS knew no age limit and no distance. I am so grateful to everyone who helped make VBS happen. All the pastors helped Kristine and me with anything we needed. My sweet new husband who happens to own a video production company filmed and edited all the videos. (He says I’m his pickiest client. Haha He’s been so supportive and helpful through this.) It took a team and I am grateful for them. What a year this has been so far. Not everything has been rainbows and butterflies, but even in the sadness, confusion, and complications this year has brought, God is still God. He still loves us and he’s still here. I am thankful for his grace and love this year.
