This Is The Day

Watching the service this morning Pastor Chris shared a passage that we all know and have heard since we were children.

This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. (Psalm 118:24)

Hearing this verse was perfect timing for me.  The Holy Spirit the moment Chris began to read spoke to me.  So much of the past two months and the current spirit most of us have is how to deal with our current circumstances and what our new normal will be like.  Yesterday I had the privilege of ministering to a family who had lost a loved one unexpectedly.  Our current preventions and precautions restricted the family from being able to grieve in the typical manner, but as we gathered in their home I was encouraged by the Spirit that as a family they had everything they needed.  They had their relatives, physically or electronically present, the Word of God and His comforting Spirit.  By nature I am usually not an overly optimistic person by nature, but the circumstances of my weekend and of Pastor Chris’ encouragement reminded me that everyday, no matter the circumstances, we have a divinely ordained opportunity to see the goodnesses of God, His provision and plan for our lives.  I can still hear the song echoing in my mind as a child singing this Psalm and I’m thankful for the word of God being taught to me at such a young age.  I’m even more grateful that no matter how familiar a passage of Scripture may be, the Holy Spirit can always peel back another layer of mining and application for my life.  Let me encourage you in the same way I have been today.  Start each day with the attitude that God has ordained this day.  Whatever the struggle or challenge God has made this day for me; for my sanctification and for my eternal blessing.  Let’s take us our circumstances and bend them to the knowledge of Romans 8:28.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who[a] have been called according to his purpose.
