Following Jesus

For our sermon series heading into Easter I wanted to really take a much more profound look at what it was like to get to actually follow Jesus. As I read through the Gospels, thinking about what would be most helpful to us as a church, it seemed to me that it might be good to step back and really think through some of the key moments for the disciples leading up to the cross and the resurrection. Then I thought it would be really neat to look at one particular disciple and see through his eyes and try to get into his mind as he watched Jesus’ ministry unfold right before him. Sometimes, because I read the stories so fast, or know them so well, I don’t take time to really appreciate them. These next few weeks I’m going to help slow us down so we can really think about Jesus and His ministry and what It would be like in those days to be asked to follow Him and consider if we would have what it takes to be true disciples of Jesus Christ. We will do this by watching as Peter sought to follow Jesus and try to understand this man some called the Messiah. It’s going to be a great few weeks. We’ll begin with one of the most important issues, commitment. Without commitment, nothing else is possible, so the first step is understanding what it was Peter thought he was doing when he got out of the boat that day and whether he thought he was just playing hooky for a day, or if he knew that he was giving his whole life to the man he called Jesus.

The series begins on March 10, can’t wait to see you there.
