Spring Forward in Serving

Two weeks ago, Grace and I attended the Middle School State Championship Robotics Competition in Irmo, SC. Our nephew was competing along with hundreds of other Middle School students from across the state. It was my first experience at this kind of event, and I left there feeling like all of those Middle Schoolers were smarter than me. “There is no way I could do that”, I thought to myself. Building robots that can function on their own is just not my thing. Sometimes we can observe a gift that someone else has and wonder why we do not have that gift. This is especially true when we think about our own spiritual gifts. We must wake up to the truth that God has gifted all of His spiritual children in a unique way. Our middle schoolers at Trinity are currently studying spiritual gifts on Sunday mornings. One of the truths we are teaching them is that spiritual gifts are distinguished from other gifts because God wants us to use our spiritual gifts to advance His kingdom. In other words, our spiritual gifts should promote Christ and His kingdom instead of ourselves. I believe one of the best ways we can discover our gifts is by serving in the local church. When we serve, we discover what our passions are and what our giftedness is. The more we serve, the more we allow the Holy Spirit to confirm to us what our gifts are. Do you have a place where you are consistently serving in ministry? As a Christ-follower, you have a unique personality and giftedness that God can use for His glory and your good. However God has wired you, he has wired you that way so that you can have a unique impact in this world in a way that no one else can. He wants to use you to expand His kingdom.
