Setting the table for Christmas

Setting the table in the Merchant house is the last thing before the meal takes place.  Its the cue for everyone that the meal is ready and it’s time to eat.  If you are like me and my family Christmas is in full swing.  From the holiday decorations to the gifts and parties, it really is the most wonderful time of the year.  For the believer the challenge during the holiday season is not just to survive the business, or the constant barrage of consumerism, but to truly connect with the heart of the season, Jesus Christ; Immanuel.  The best way to keep your heart and your families focus this Christmas is to find a way to celebrate the advent season.  Advent is the traditional church time of preparing for Christmas through weekly themes.  If you were worshipping with us last week we kicked off our advent season with a look at hope.  Each week we focus on the historical story of Jesus and the nation of Israel and their long awaited savior.  As believers we not only look back at the first coming of Christ, but we also celebrate our hope in His return!  This Christmas season I hope you take the time to prepare your heart and mind for what it is Christ wants to do in your heart.  I’d encourage you to start a new Bible reading plan, read a new devotional, or share an Advent calendar or tree with your family.  Whatever it might be Advent can be a great tool for you and your family to keep Jesus at the center of this holiday season.
