Searching for Better

We have all heard the sayings – Just Do It, God Deserves our Best, Honor God in All You Do, and of course what we always tell our children … DO YOUR BEST. When I was young, I never really cared about being better – because I already thought I was the BEST at EVERYTHING. I guess that is where the saying “Young and Nieve” comes into play. I have spent a long time searching for better. As I started getting older, I started understanding more one of the main ideas our Dad always said to us, “take pride in what you do and If you are going to do something, do it right”.  In today’s world, the Internet has changed the way we can change ourselves. The world of Self-Help is at our fingertips. You can google – How to manage your time better, how to cure depression, how to live a stress-free life, how to become a millionaire… etc. Do you find yourself searching for ways to be better? Have you found yourself googling a way that you can improve yourself? Or are you the best version of yourself already? Do you go to work each day and do what you have always done? Are you being the most efficient and effective employee that you can be or do you spend 8 hours a day at work really only accomplishing 3 hours of work. Are you the best spouse you can be? Are you great with managing your families money or managing your time? Could you be a  better cook, golfer, student, brother, sister … etc. To become better, you have to be Proactive, you can’t be lazy! Let’s face it … We can all do better at everything we do. You will never be perfect, but you can always be better.

The bible says – Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works—Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward — Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it.

As a result of our ELT meetings, I have really been looking at myself and my job at Trinity. I have been asking myself a lot of questions lately -How can I be better at my job and honor God while at work. How can I make our services better, how can I be a more effective communicator, etc. I can feel the desire to accomplish those things stirring within. I do know from experience that if there is a passion inside of you, then it becomes easier to accomplish goals you set. Have you lost a passion for something? I find that the more I study God’s word, the more I have a desire to be better … To be more like Him. Searching for Better is the first step in becoming better. Find ways to re-invent yourself. Find what motivates you. I have never met someone who has said these words – “I have become such a better person and I am so much better at what I do … But I hate myself for the person I have become”. After all, what does “Well done my good and faithful servant” really mean to you? Do you think it means – Well done, thanks for the 50% you gave in everything you have done. Life should be about becoming a better version of yourself –– make today better than yesterday. Take the journey with me – search for better –  find it – and become it.
