God’s Promises

A quick Google search on God’s Promises brings up all kinds of Bible verses we can reference. At times like these, reaching out to God and holding Him to His promises might be the only comfort we have. We are in a lost and depraved world. A world in which we can not trust fellow man, not even our neighbors. The news this week has been devastating news for those of us who live in the Cayce community. With the death of a small child, our worlds have turned upside down. We have all collectively been praying, hoping, looking, begging God for her safe return. We have been looking for her in the faces of strangers. We have been trying to reconcile what may have happened to her. When the news broadcast came out and Chief Snellgrove delivered the news about her death, all hope for her to return was gone. “This has now been classified as a homicide investigation.” With those words, all our hope, all our desperation has turned to anger, frustration, sadness. Why did this little 6 year old girl have to lose her life? Who did this? Why? How? And my thoughts turned to her family. Her loved ones. Her classmates at Springdale Elementary. Her teachers. Those that knew her, and those who loved her. We have no answers here on Earth. The good news that I am sure of is that little Faye is sitting on Jesus’s lap right now. She’s smiling, happy, and unconcerned with what we are doing. One of many of God’s promises is found in Deuteronomy 31:8. It states, “The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we can be assured that God was with Faye. The Psalmist says “Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” There’s even reassurance for us, Psalm 34:18 says “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” I think that surely describes us right now. I am content to leave the investigation of this crime to the professionals. I am praying for them as they are reminded daily of the details of this crime. I am praying for all those affected by this tragedy. But mostly, I am thankful for a loving, just God. We know that ultimately someone will pay for this crime. It may not come here on earth, but God will have His vengeance on the one who hurt his lamb. We know, because God promised, and we can trust Him.
