Gospel Hospitality

About a year and a half ago, Emily and I bought our first home. Before that we were living a 600-square foot apartment. The apartment was fun and perfect for just us. However, once we started having people over we realized that our living space put some major limitations on one of our passions. Emily and I love having people into our home for meals.
A few years ago, I was studying through the book of Acts and examining the characteristics of the Apostles and the early Church. One of the things that stood out to me the most was the common trend that occurred when people received the gospel. Upon believing in Christ, their reaction was to invite people into their home and show them hospitality. There was an intimate
connection that happened between people when someone opened up their home for strangers and friends alike. As I started to think through this concept I realized that for my entire life, my parents emulated this same sense of welcoming hospitality. From as far back as I can remember, we constantly had guests over to our house to share a meal with us. That was a norm in our household. Early on in our marriage, Emily and I decided that we wanted to make this a priority in our lives. We see our dinner table as an opportunity for gospel ministry to take place. It has become one of our greatest joys in life and even led us to invest in the home where we now live. It’s nothing big or fancy but it opens up the door for so many opportunities to get to know people and invest in their lives.
I encourage anyone reading this to let the Lord use your home as a place for ministry. I also encourage you to let us know when you want to come eat with us. We’re serous when we say “come over anytime!”
