Turn Around

When I was a senior in high school, I played the role of Satan in a powerful and moving skit that was set to the song ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’ by Bonnie Tyler. The skit portrayed the life of a young girl who was caught up into a world of sin. The girl falls into various forms of temptation from the enemy to what seems to be the point of no return. That is, until Jesus intervenes, breaks her from the traps of all her sins, and rescues her from the enemy. This was a popular skit that was common for church youth groups to perform when I was a teenager. The phrase “turn around” appears over twenty times throughout the song. The theme of the skit is a call for people to repent; to “turn around” form their life of sin and turn to Jesus, who is the answer for all our sins. While are conditioned to want to live our lives either the way we
want to, the way others want us to, or the way the world wants us to; Jesus offers another path. Following God’s path for our lives requires change on our part. Jesus says, “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and few will find it (Matthew 7:13)”. Apart from Christ we are headed down the broad road that leads to destruction, but through Jesus, the narrow gate, we find eternal life.
Knowing Jesus and walking with Jesus involves a total transformation. No area of our lives is to be left out. We are to love the Lord our God with all our hearts, souls, mind, and strength. What needs to turn around in your life today? What change is needed? Is your heart hardened toward God? Is your soul longing for something more? Is your mind contaminated with destructive thoughts? Is strength non-existent? By His grace, God continues to grow every area of our lives once we surrender to Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord. How can you grow in grace today?
