Christmas Cacophony

It is the week before Thanksgiving.  In the life of any musician, whether in church, in teaching, in professional music, singer or instrumentalist, this is the “busy time!”

The musicians here at Trinity Baptist Church are no different. The Kidz Choir has been working for weeks on Christmas music, as well as the Worship Choir and Handbell Choir – and even the Youth Ensemble has started meeting again – all in preparation for our church Christmas musical on December 9th at 6:00 p.m., called “Sing We Now of Christmas.”

There are other opportunities that you’ve probably heard of as well:  “Carols Along the Riverwalk” on November 30th, 6-8 p.m., in Cayce where our Handbell Choir will be featured; the Cayce Christmas Parade on December 8th; our church Christmas service on Sunday, December 23rd at 9:30; and the Christmas Eve service at 6:00 p.m.

Of course, I think the busyness ramps up for just about everyone at this time.  Added to the church events I just mentioned, you probably have extra school concerts and parties for your children, Sunday School parties, Work events, and of course, the shopping!

When you look at it all together, it can look like a crazy mess.  But I have found when I enter into each event, if I can put all the other things aside and just enjoy right where I am and who is with me, I start to hear a beautiful melody in the midst of all the noise.  I can delight in finding and giving a gift that has special meaning.  I can see the beauty in a Middle School beginning band playing “Good King Wenceslas” in their own special way.  I can experience God and His love for me as I sing with the choir about Jesus’ birth.

So in the cacophony of Christmas, if we stop and listen, we can hear the beautiful sound of God singing about the joy He gives, and the hope He holds out for us.  He’s our Prince of Peace!
