Let’s Talk Politics

One definition of politics is, “the activities associated with the governance of a country or other area, especially the debate or conflict among individuals or parties having or hoping to achieve power.” Most of us were taught growing up to be very careful who you speak to about money, religion and politics. Many people consider it rude if you bring up controversial issues like politics. One way or another politics affects all of us. Even if we refuse to pay any attention to current politics we are shaped by and affected by political decisions every day. Think about it for a second, Jesus was born in Bethlehem because of the political census that was being conducted. Jesus did how and where He did because of politics. As much as we might like to avoid politics, we can’t. Further, because we live in a democracy, we have an even greater moral and ethical obligation to the country in which we live. The only thing more complicated about politics than deciding how much I as an individual should be involved is deciding how much the church should be involved in politics.
