Living Fearlessly in the New Year

As our students returned from Impact Weekend last month, I spent some time reflecting on all of the amazing God moments from the weekend. The Lord is moving in powerful ways in our Student Ministry and in our church and I am praying for God to provide us with the strength we need to live fearlessly in the New Year.
Our theme for Impact Weekend was ‘Fearless’. One of the key verses we reminded our students of was 2 Timothy 1:6-7, which states: “For this I reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God,…for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” As Christ-followers, we have been given the best gift of all: salvation and eternal life! God, because of His great love for us, sent His son Jesus Christ to take on our sins so that we could
take on His righteousness by entering a relationship with Him. Paul is reminding Timothy (and us) that our gift of salvation is not meant to be kept to ourselves, but to be shared with others. Living fearlessly means we will strive to share the love of Christ to the people God places in our lives. While we do not know what this year will bring, we can be sure that God is with us no matter what we will go through. Living fearlessly requires that we trust God, listen to God, and obey God. There will be times this year where it will be difficult to trust, listen, and obey God. Perhaps you are going through such a time right now. If so, remember Paul’s words to Timothy. Fear does not come from God. God gives us a spirit of love, power, and self-control. All of these things are demonstrated perfectly in the life of Jesus, in whom we trust. Let’s make 2018 a year of living fearlessly for Jesus because of who He is and what He has done for us.
