The Judge

This past Wednesday, Sam and I entered the courtroom for the 6th time in the last year, hoping it would be the last. The attorney for DSS stood before the judge and said “We are asking for another continuance.” I was shocked and didn’t want to believe what I heard.  We had been led to believe we were walking out of the court with permanent custody of Taylor and parental rights terminated for William and Mya.  Then the attorney for Taylor’s biological mom stood and said, “Your Honor, I don’t understand why there needs to be a continuance for the Willis family and Taylor. I believe that everyone in attendance is in agreement with them having custody of her. I would like to recommend they be dismissed from this case and given custody of Taylor”.  The judge asked if there was anyone presence who would contest us receiving custody and being dismissed from future court appearances. After questioning those in attendance he looked at us and said, “Mr. and Mrs. Willis, I grant you permanent custody of Taylor and order the dismissal of your name from this case.”  Someone had interceded for us! With a few words from the attorney opposing DSS, we were given custody without further appearances in court!  I walked out of court with tears in my eyes, relieved it was all over!

I was reminded that one day I will stand in another court with God as my judge. Guilty of sinning I have no right to expect mercy for my disobedience.  However, I remember the day Jesus spoke to me saying “Follow me” and I said “Yes”.  That day Jesus Christ became my Savior, my intercessor!  While I never thought an attorney would intercede for me, I am more grateful knowing that Jesus will speak for me saying , “Father, this is my child and I speak on her behalf.”  

Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.  — Hebrew 7:25
